I want to talk to all those who opposed the liberation of
Iraq. I want to show you all something. I want to show you the joyous
scene in downtown Baghdad today.

People oppressed. Now people free. People once hopeless. Now hopeful.
People you forgot. But we remembered.

If you had things your way, they'd still be under the thumb of a
dictator. And you were fine with that. We were not. You had no
problem telling them, "live with it." We had a big problem telling
them, "get over it."

Look at their faces. See their smiles. And feel their joy, their
freedom and their fervor. How do you feel now? Still sure going the
extra mile for them wasn't worth it? I don't think they'd agree.

While you were debating, they were suffering. While you were
kowtowing (kissing ass) to a dictator you knew was an ogre, they were
enduring under a dictator they knew was even worse. They lived in
huts and tenements. He lived in castles. But that didn't bother you.

They scraped by to get morsels. You skulked by to get contracts. They
couldn't realize a penny from the oil that made Saddam rich. You
didn't seem to care, as long as it made you rich.

You opted for profit over principle and deals that made a dictator
richer and his people poorer. You argued the world had no right to
interfere in a sovereign nation. But you won't waste a nanosecond to
worm your way into this new nation. Now you want in, when for so long
the masses have been kept out.

You are as crass as you are cunning, as phony as you are pathetic.

I ask you to look at their faces. Then look at your own. See the
triumph of the human spirit and the coalition soldiers who fought and
died for it. Then see your own pathetic selves, who -- even now --
can't come close to appreciating it.

This was written on 3/9 by a Marine and his buddies stationed in
Kuwait.
They had been listening to news on the radio and heard about anti-
war
protests going on.
He was very upset. No one standing in your crowd.
We are your fathers, brothers and sons
wearing the boots and carrying guns.
We are the ones that leave all we own
to make sure your future is carved in stone.
We are the ones who fight and die.
We may not be able to save the world
Well, at least we try.
We walked the paths to where we are at
and we want no choice other than that.
So when you rally your group to complain,
take a look in the back of your brain.
In order for that flag you love to fly,
wars must be fought and young men must die.
We came here to fight for the ones we hold dear.
If that's not respected, we would rather stay here.
So please stop yelling, put down your signs,
and pray for those behind enemy lines.
When the conflict is over and all is well,
be thankful that we chose to go through hell.

Feel free to pass this one, it might get to at least 1 protestors

What are the origins of the name?
The name is Taney.
I was informed that the deal would be sweeter if I put a reward on it ... and more humorous.
My parents do not know (I was named after my Great Great Aunt), nor does the web search engines.
I have two new contacts. The Parish of Taney and the Taney School both in Ireland. I don't know if they will answer the email ... or have any information, or will they wonder who is this strange American, maybe they will think this is a good project for the kids to do.
Some have said, "Well then you are meant to be an Artist with that one word name, like Cher and Madonna." For the sake for her American Children, and their departed father, husband, and hero. Lets do whats right!

The kindness of a stranger.
An Appeal on behalf of Deena Gilbey.

The plight of Deena Gilbey and her young American born sons continues to trouble my thoughts today. As an individual and a resident of the USA and not a voting citizen I am effectively disqualified by status to effectively complain to the authorities as my voice is mute.

Yet, through this web page and by making the media icons aware of this story long since forgotten as resolved months ago, it will come as a great shock to many that the threat of deportation to a resident of the US for ten years who so tragically lost her heroic husband as he tried to save many of his co-workers at the World Trade Center must come as a bitter blow.

I have a voice and my voice through this page is asking you dear reader if you are an American Citizen, I appeal to you to raise awareness of this story to all those that you know, your family, your friends, your co-workers and fellow bloggers.

I kindly ask you to do at least one of the following actions as the massed voices of the American public are more likely to make a difference on this topic than the few solitary voices who have read this Fox News reported story from July 22, 2002.

In the spirit of liberty and justice for all I ask you to:

Email to INS with your thoughts on this case.
Contact your Congressman with your views.
Write, Fax and email any other elected officials that may offer support to this case.

This is an emotive subject, Through calmness and politeness the greater good are much more likely to get results.

I would like to thank James DiBenedetto and Iain Murray for bringing this troubling situation to my attention. I urge you to please link to their blog sites for further information regarding this story.

I pray that there will be a happy conclusion to this story and that the INS will not find themselves responsible for further undue stress and pressure on this family who have endured too much pain and strife already through the loss of a husband and father.

Thank you most kindly in advance for any help and support you may be able to offer.

posted by Malcolm Friend

For those of you still trying to read Lets talk friends..... don't. I was think of the doors we have opening to all of us all of the time. How we make those decisions to open them or not. To grab opportunity when it comes a knocking. I guess why one of my all time favorite films is “Auntie Mame”, with Rosalind Russell, (not the one with Lucy)
I want to be Auntie Mame. It’s that simple. If you have never seen Auntie Mame, it is a watch movie! My Mom, my sister Brittany and I all want to be Auntie Mame. My husband said that growing up, his Auntie Barb was Mame and that he felt very much like Patrick.
Remember darlings, "Life's a banquet, and most suckers are starving to death." That tag line sums up this exuberant and immensely amusing 1958 comedy that can be seen repeatedly, as it never grows stale. Rosalind Russell plays the flamboyant aunt who takes in poor, orphaned Patrick, played with sophisticated ease by Jan Handzlik. Mame, all glitter and martinis, raises her nephew in a world filled with acceptance and her oddball literati friends. Nothing is too bohemian, which is so Greenwich Village, New York city. This unfolds in colorful episodic segments that allow us to watch Patrick grow as Mame oversees his unusual upbringing while she juggles what life hands her and an extended household. Russell, who created the title role for the stage, simply shines. She is bright and brassy, but never goes too far over the top. Peggy Cass is a comedic delight as her befuddled secretary, and Coral Browne brings class to the production as her best friend. This was based on the exuberant stage play, which in turn was based on Patrick Dennis's humorous, bittersweet novel. The screen version was written by the clever duo of Betty Comden and Adolph Green. Not to be confused with the pathetically lackluster musical version starring Lucille Ball (1974), simply entitled Mame.
You can buy the movie at Amazon.com

blogger.com

To those newsmakers, I ask stop!
You are the ones hurting the economy
Merrill Lynch strategist Rich Bernstein has a standard answer for reporters who ask him when the market will bottom: "When people like you stop writing these stories."

This is the recently published list of the worst television shows by TV guide.
One thing is wrong with this list..Hogan's Heroes was one of the best programs when I was growing up. I have been having a spring clean lately. One of the things that are on my mind among many is: What are my greatest strengths and what is the opposite. I have been told that I tell the truth… when pushed. This isn’t a good thing it is like a Knife and it is usually quite stabbing. And I mean pushed sort of a three strike you’re Outta here! This also can be a good thing. The other is my will. Only lately I think my will has digressed. I'm not feeling assertive... my sister Tabitha has a very good word for it BLAH thats how I feel.
Thinking lately that I totally respect someone who is sensitive to everyone’s’ thoughts and opinions. I can’t seem to do that, if I don’t like something I say I don’t like it … I’m working on the part where someone may like the thing I don't and that I should think that first. Unless I don't want to…. Ahhh there’s that Will I was talking aboutJ

In support of Iran I am posting this. Any one wanting more info on Iran please contact Mac Frazier.
AN OPEN LETTER IN SUPPORT OF THE PEOPLE OF IRAN FROM THE WEBLOGGING COMMUNITY

To show our support for the Iranian people, we each have agreed to display this letter, in English and—if possible—in Farsi, on our pages from sunrise to sunset today, Tehran time; some are displaying it longer.

We are not politicians, nor are we generals. We hold no power to dispatch diplomats to negotiate; we can send no troops to defend those who choose to risk their lives in the cause of freedom.

What power we have is in our words, and in our thoughts. And it is that strength which we offer to the people of Iran on this day.

Across the diverse and often contentious world of weblogs, each of us has chosen to put aside our differences and come together today to declare our unanimity on the following simple principles:

That the people of Iran are allies of free men and women everywhere in the world, and deserve to live under a government of their own choosing, which respects their own personal liberties
That the current Iranian regime has failed to create a free and prosperous society, and attempts to mask its own failures by repression and tyranny
We do not presume to know what is best for the people of Iran; but we are firm in our conviction that the policies of the current government stand in the way of the Iranians ability to make those choices for themselves.

And so we urge our own governments to turn their attention to Iran. The leaders and diplomats of the world's democracies must be clear in their opposition to the repressive actions of the current Iranian regime, but even more importantly, must be clear in their support for the aspirations of the Iranian people.

And to the people of Iran, we say: You are not alone. We see your demonstrations in the streets; we hear of your newspapers falling to censorship; and we watch with anticipation as you join the community of the Internet in greater and greater numbers. Our hopes are with you in your struggle for freedom. We cannot and will not presume to tell you the correct path to freedom; that is for you to choose. But we look forward to the day when we can welcome your nation into the community of free societies of the world, for we know with deepest certainty that such a day will come.

And now, due to the kind translation services of Kaveh (who also provides GIF and PDF versions), the letter in Farsi:

(Do not adjust your monitors, everything is all right; if you don't normally read Farsi on your machine, then you will probably see several rows of question marks. Scroll on down for more in English.)

Welcome back to those who miss me and welcome to those who are reading this for the first time:)
Any questions email TaneyFriend@aol.com

Hello all long time no write!

I can’t come up with anything viable as an excuse so I won’t give one. I have been spending my time outside the walls of my computer. Pondering as one does on life requisitioning my state. State i.e. the one I am in… to the one I see approaching. Sort of a revaluation but without the boring pointless chats and the chairs which my feet don’t touch the ground. I dislike that…. Chairs that I can’t touch the ground in. I’m short I know that, I mean at least stools have that bar on it to rest my tootsies on. I dislike being short, I guess people hate being tall too, but I don’t like being short. Airplane seats are not designed for people who are 5’1feet tall. That’s me I’m 5’1, and my feet don’t touch the ground and those stupid headrests pushes my head down. So I was told to recline the seat… I did and what preceded to happen was that I was laying back with head still squished by the headrest. I’ve tried everything! From putting the chick lit pillow behind my neck even to attempt taking the head rest off my seat. So when talk about adding money for people who don’t shall we say fit the seats, I say I should get money off. Are you with me short people! I don’t want a revolution but I think that people miss that part of Sesame Street. “One of these kids is not like the other!”
